What Is ICUMSA 600-1200 Raw Sugar?
ICUMSA 600-1200 is minimally processed cane sugar that has undergone the first stage of crystallization but has not been refined to remove its natural molasses coating. This gives it a characteristic golden-to-brown colour and a higher ICUMSA rating — remember, the higher the number, the less refined the sugar.
It is most commonly traded under the name VHP sugar (Very High Polarization), which refers to its high sucrose content of 99.40% or above — making it an extremely efficient feedstock for refining into white sugar, producing ethanol, or direct use in industrial food processing.

Yes — ICUMSA 600-1200 raw sugar is food grade and safe for human consumption and food manufacturing use. It is used in food factories worldwide as a direct ingredient in products where a slight brown colour and mild molasses flavour are acceptable or desirable.

However, it is not suitable for applications requiring a neutral flavour, clear colour, or pharmaceutical-grade purity — for those, you need ICUMSA 45 or ICUMSA 35. If you are unsure which grade is right for your application, contact our team and we will advise you.
